In association with our client Fernham Homes and Broadlands Planning Consultants, a detailed planning application for the redevelopment of the site of the former Working Men’s Club, Lyons Crescent, in Tonbridge was approved. The site lies within Tonbridge town centre Conservation Area and is a stone’s throw from the historic castle, river and High Street. The site previously accommodated a detached two storey concrete framed building of modern construction under a flat roof and was used until recently, as the Tonbridge Working Men’s Club. The existing property had no architectural merit and does not in any way enhance the Conservation Area.
Particular attention was given to the bulk and design issues of the new high density building and their relationship with the adjoining buildings, with positive pre-application discussions held with the Council’s planning department. The approved scheme of fourteen one and two bedroom apartments, with under croft parking in a bold contemporary style was well received by those involved and BHD Architects are delighted to be retained by Fernham Homes, for the working drawing and construction stage
