CONVERTED RESIDENTIAL WAREHOUSE SCHEME
Planning permission was granted in 2014 for the demolition of an Edwardian dwelling and a modern warehouse. Planning was approved for the development of 7 no. flats and the conversion of a Victorian warehouse into 7 no. town houses. Unfortunately, the Victorian warehouse was destroyed by fire, but permission was then granted to replicate the warehouse as part of the overall scheme.
The client was keen to acknowledge the industrial nature of the original buildings whilst adding a contemporary note to the overall development. The rebuilt Town Houses replicated the original warehouse window openings and style and used a modern zinc clad structure to allow access to where the two structures joined. The flatted development, also built in the same style, incorporated a metal industrial staircase, giving access to the upper flats. The brickwork and concrete stone window sills also enhance the industrial setting of the scheme, providing a unique residential enclosure in the heart of Tunbridge Wells.
