MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT
In June 2007, at the Bromley Environment Awards, BHD Architects were proudly presented as the winner of the mixed commercial award in the built environment section. The award was presented in ‘recognition of exceptional commitment to sustainability and the environment'. The project designed for CDC 20/20 was given planning permission in May 2006 and completed in 2007. The site, located close to the town centre opposite Bromley North Railway Station, contains a wide variety of built forms and styles, accommodating a mixture of uses. The vacant site offered an unusual opportunity to incorporate a fairly substantial building with a contemporary design.
The proposal consisted of the demolition of the existing office building and the construction of a new building, accommodating 10 residential apartments and two linked areas of B1 offices, together with associated car parking. The building has been designed to reflect the contemporary appearance of the adjoining re-development scheme currently under construction. Although in built form the structure is similar to the proposed building at 1 Sherman Road, there are deliberate subtle differences of colours and textures that give the building its own identity.
